Main Attactions Itinerary Day 1: Johannesburg, Soweto and Pretoria (Sunday) Your guide will meet you at the Johannesburg airport or at your hotel. Johannesburg City Tour: This is a drive-through tour and you will see down town Johannesburg, the old and the new, the poor and the rich.... experience urbanized African culture. Soweto Tour: A couple of kilometres south west of Johannesburg is the largest township in South Africa. More than 2 million people live in Soweto - most famous for the resistance against apartheid government. You will visit the Hector Peterson Memorial, Nelson Mandela's house museum, the informal settlements and the "Beverly Hills" of Soweto. You will stop for lunch at one of Soweto's shebeens - formerly an illegal liquor store, but today a thriving restaurant visited by tourists from all over the world. Your first day will end with a drive through Pretoria – Capital City of South Africa Meals Included Today: Lunch, Dinner Day 2: Pretoria via Panorama Route to Kruger Park - Hazyview (Monday) As you leave the concrete jungle behind you travel across the eastern Highveld towards Mpumalanga. The first two hours of your journey takes you past maize fields, grasslands, coal mines, power stations to the edge of the escarpment. The route along the escarpment was appropriately named the Panorama Route. On the Panorama Route you visit, Blyde River Canyon (World's 3rd largest), Burke's Luck Potholes, God's Window and waterfalls. Your overnight destination is a small village close to Kruger Park - Hazyview. Meals Included Today: Breakfast, Dinner Day 3: Kruger National Park Safari (Tuesday) You will have an early breakfast and depart for Kruger Park. As soon as your guide has checked in at Kruger Park entry gate you will start on your first safari. As you drive through the bush your guide will share his knowledge about the history of the park, animals - big and small, birds and other creatures found in the park. Lunch will be at a rest camp or picnic spot inside the park after which you continue your safari to your overnight rest camp. (Kruger Park has several rest camps which are all fenced for your safety. All camps have a range of accommodation, commonly known as bungalows or chalets. All accommodation has en-suite facilities with air-conditioner.) You will have time to unpack, have a shower and scout the camp environment. Late afternoon you will depart on open safari vehicle for your night safari and bush dinner. Your Kruger Park Game Ranger will use a power search light to search for many nocturnal animals that you will not see during the day - remember Lions hunt at night and you may just "catch them in the act". Dinner is at the Restaurant. Meals Included Today: Breakfast, Dinner Day 4: Kruger Park via Swaziland to Zululand (Wednesday) After breakfast and check-out you will depart on your final safari on your way to the Kruger Park exit gates. Continuing south you will soon reach the border of Swaziland (Independent country). After completing the procedures at customs and immigration you will be traveling the roads of one of the few countries ruled by a King. Swaziland is a monarchy ruled by King Moswati III. Departing Swaziland will be at the southern border with South Africa. Your overnight destination is only a short drive from the border in the Pongola Game Reserve. The reserve borders the Pongola river and the Pongola Lake. Meals Included Today: Breakfast, Dinner Day 5: Pongola to Durban (Thursday) Early morning you will board a boat on the Pongola lake and enjoy a "safari" along the shores of the Pongola Lake. Returning for breakfast to the lodge and depart further south towards Durban. Traveling along the east coast of northern Kwa-Zulu Natal you will past varying countryside - bush, plantations, and rolling hills of sugarcane. Arriving in Durban you will check-in at your Guest House close to the beach. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the beach. Tonight you will go to one of the local restaurants for Ala Carte Seafood Dinner (Own account) Meals Included Today: Breakfast Day 6: Durban to Drakensburg Mountains (Friday) You depart after breakfast for short Durban City Tour after which you stop at the Ushaka Marine world with aquarium, beach and shopping. You can visit the unique aquarium - build inside the old remains of a ship. Dolphin shows are presented at certain times and there are a variety of restaurants for lunch. Departure is around 13:00 Traveling from Durban inland you past through Pietermaritzburg on your way to Howick. At Howick you head south towards the mountains. At the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains you will find your overnight destination. Dinner will be at your Guest House. Meals Included Today: Breakfast, Dinner Day 7: 4x4 Tour up Sani Pass to Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho (Saturday) Today you will have lunch at the highest pub in Africa! Departure at 9:00 to travel(4x4 vehicles) through the village of Himeville to the World Heritage Site of the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park, following the Mkomazana River up the scenic Sani Valley to the South African Border Post (border formalities). You continue up the Sani Pass, which was built by David Alexander between 1948 and 1954 viewing the Hodgson’s Peaks and the Giants Cup. Climbing to an altitude of 2.874m and zigzag upwards beneath towering cliffs, buttresses, past waterfalls and unique flora and bird life. After having completed the border formalities on the Lesotho Border we visit the village to learn more about the Basotho culture. You arrive at the Sani Top Chalet and the "Highest Pub in Africa" (2.874m) for lunch (excluded). The restaurant offers international and South African meals from the A la Carte menu. Descending the legendary Sani Pass with a spectacular view into the valley. Arrival back at your Guest House around 15:30 The rest of the afternoon is at leisure and dinner is at the Guest House. Meals Included Today: breakfast, Dinner Day 8: Return to Johannesburg (Sunday) You depart after breakfast and travel along the Kwazulu Natal Midlands Meander where you will stop for tea and a browse around the interesting shops along the way. The rest of the day is spent traveling back to Johannesburg. You travel along the N3 route pass the towns of Van Reenen, Harrismith, Warden, Villiers and Heidelberg. Tour ends late afternoon in Johannesburg where your guide will drop you at the Johannesburg airport or your hotel. Meals Included Today: Breakfast | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
