Do you offer overnight accommodation before and after the safari?
Yes. Bed & Breakfast accommodation is available in Pretoria. The rates are R 850 per person sharing and includes breakfast. Single occupancy pay R 1 500 per person including breakfast.
What is the Kruger Park accommodation like?
Accommodation is called bungalows/chalets/Rondawels. These are "brick & mortar" rooms with thatch roof. All have air-conditioning and on-suite bathrooms. Each unit also have a fridge and the doors/windows have insect proofing.
What is supplied in the Bungalows?
All bed linen and towels are supplied with face soap.
Does the bathroom have a shower or a bath?
Most units have showers. Some have bath and shower.
Is there electricity?
Yes, each unit have electric lights and electric power outlet that can be used to charge electric equipment. The supply is 240V / 50Hz. The electric outlets uses a 3 pin plug (1 large round pin and two smaller round pins placed in triangle). Adaptors for international connections can be bought from the shop but it is recommended that you bring your own.
What about Malaria?
During June/July Kruger Park is a low-risk area. Insect repellent and long sleeve clothing are normally enough to prevent mosquitoes bites. We recommend you visit your medical doctor or travel clinic for precautionary medicine.
What vehicles are used for safaris?
We use "all weather" minibus. The vehicle is equipped with efficient air-conditioning and heating systems. This make your safari more comfortable early mornings when it is cold on safari and cool during the midday heat.
Will I have a window seat?
The vehicle have 8 window seats and 4 isle seats. If there are more than 8 guests we follow a rotation policy whereby everybody gets the opportunity to sit at a window seat.
Can the vehicle windows open?
Some windows can open for the serious photographers.
Will I see the BIG 5?
Kruger Park is a free roaming game reserve of more than 2 million hectares. Although our guides will do their best to find as large variety of animals as possible we cannot guarantee that we will see the BIG5.
What will we eat?
The safari includes breakfast and dinner. Breakfast time is normally mid-morning and can be from a menu or buffet style. Dinners can vary from a set menu, buffet style or traditional South African BBQ prepared and served around a open fire.
Can I drink the water?
Yes the water is safe for drinking, but we recommend bottled water for visitors.
What is a Rest Camp?
Rest Camps are safe, fenced areas inside Kruger Park where the accommodation, curio shop and restaurants are build. It is safe to walk in the Rest Camps and small antelope like Impala is often seen in the camps. The camps offer excellent opportunity to do bird watching on foot.
What is the weather like in June/July?
June/July is mid-winter and the night / early morning / evening temperatures can be cool to cold (8 - 15 deg Celsius) From time to time it gets even colder during the early mornings. The day temperatures rise to mid 20 deg Celsius. Layered clothing is recommended that can be taken of/on as the day warms up or cool down in the evening.
Do I need special clothing for safari?
No - the most comfortable clothing is the best. If you intend to do a walking safari you will need long trousers and comfortable walking shoes.
What is available from the Rest Camp shop?
All basic food & drink are available with a wide variety of curios.
Is there mobile phone reception?
There is mobile phone reception at the Rest Camp. Mobile phones are not allowed to be used when on safari - only in the Rest Camp.
Is there internet connection available?
No
Is there a bank / ATM at Satara?
No
Can I pay by Credit Card at the Rest Camp shop and restaurant?
Yes, all major Credit Cards are accepted.
Can I pay with USD/GBP/EUR at the Rest Camp shop and restaurant?
No
How can I pay for the safari?
We accept all major Credit Cards.
Wire / Bank / Internet transfer payment is preferred.
How much money will I need for lunches and drinks?
A basic hamburger with fries will cost you around R 35 (USD 5)
Canned soda drink around R 8 (USD 1)
Beer from the restaurant R 15 (USD 2)
Good wine R 100 - R 200 (USD 12 - USD 25)
We recommend a budget between R 50 - R 70 for lunches
Can we share 3 people in one room?
Yes, but limited 3 bed units are available.
Do we need to pay deposit?
Yes 50% deposit is required to confirm your reservation.
What happens if I need to cancel my reservation?
All cancellations must be made in writing and shall be effective only on the date which CLIMAX receives the notice of cancellation:
> 45 days or more prior to travel date 5%* (With minimum of ZAR 500 per person)
> 35 - 44 days prior to travel date 25% *
> 21 - 34 days prior to travel date 50%*
> 14 - 20 days prior to travel date 75%*
> less than 14 days prior to travel date 100%*
*All percentages refer to the TOTAL value of the cancellation
How do I book a safarin?
Send email to wcsafari@climaxafrica.com with required departure date, number of nights and how many guests in the group. You will receive a detailed proposal and reservation documents. You need to return the reservation document by fax or email and pay 50% deposit to confirm your safari.
Do I need to book the Optional Activities in advance?
Yes. Open safari vehicles are limited and due to the large number of visitiors space are limited.
What vehicles are used in the optional Sunrise / Sunset / Night Safaris?
The vehicles are "open" vehicles with no windows. Depending on the number of guests that booked it will be a 10 seater or 20 seater vehicle.
What is a Walking Safari?
Accompanied by a Kruger Park Game Ranger you will walk on foot in the open bush. Apart from animals he will tell you about the animal tracks, birds and plants. The exitement is to be sharing the bush on foot with the BIG 5. Although it is not the aim of the walking safari to get close encounters with a wild Lion or other dangerous animals the possibility is always there that it can happen.
Will I see more animals on a Walking Safari?
No. Because the animals are free roaming (this is not a zoo) you will only see few species of animals. You will also not come very close to animals because it is wild animals and they are not used to humans.
Is the Walking Safari safe?
Yes. Your ranger knows the bush and animal behaviour. He will carry a high calibre rifle with him in case of unexpected encounter with dangerous animals.
